I am not sure  functions such as  those in DST/SST  should be  freely out there as you suggest. It is an opportunity to  screw up the  entire system/all partitions. It is most appropriate to  keep tight control over DST/SST for  the  safety of all partitions in the entire system. One  Oops and  Poof !

Are you  running a thin  primary partition or  one that is application ladened??

There is an option in Client access called Operation Console and is
described in the manual SC41-5508. With this you can control the front panel
from the PC. If you then install a remote control program for the PC you can
remotely control the Primary LPAR.
If you want to control the secondary LPAR's you can do that from SST from
any monitor that is connected to the primary LPAR. There you can set the
LPAR to manual mode, restart, d-ipl, re-assign tape IOP's etc..

Jeffrey,

Firstly thanks for your reply.

Can you be more specific on your needs ??

Hopefully !!

Currently each partition on the new system has its own Twinax attached
system console, and therefore to carry out any work that requires a
restricted condition (such as ending all subsystems to do a savsys) requires
sombody signed on to the system console at our head office. What I want is
to be able to have system console ability/control including control of the
control panel functions from my site (30 miles away) over the WAN somehow.
I believe you can somehow setup remote control of an AS/400's system console
but I'm not sure if you can do it to an actual partition.

thanks again

Neil
