Your assumption is not totally correct.

IPLing from A means it loads the OS which includes all the Permanently applied
PTFS, but none of the Temporary applied PTFs.

IPLing from B loads the OS with the permanent PTFS, but also loads the 
temporarily applied PTFS.

I had this same situation happen to me once, where normally we IPLed from the
B side, but somehow it got switched over to the A side.  I switched it back to
the B side the next time I reIPLed, ran for a couple weeks, then went through
and permanently applied all the PTFs.

It is suggested that you permanently apply the current temporary applied PTFs
before you load a CUM tape.

So, yes, you should re-IPL to the B side and let it run a couple weeks, then
permanently apply the current PTFs before applying the CUM tape.

After creating my original post on the cume & group PTFs, I came across an
interesting (?) situation on our V3R2 development box.

Note that the last IPL source shows ##MACH#A.  If I interpret correctly that
the TL* entries are the cume PTFs, would it not appear that this box is
currently running on a totally non-cume'd bare V3R2 OS?  No one here has any
idea how long this box has been running in ##MACH#A; most likely since cume
98139 was applied.

I suppose I should IPL to ##MACH#B and run that for a week or so before
installing the latest/last cume (subject to the question of whether I should
even bother - see last post).

Again, all useful advice solicited.
