Actually you can access data from any SQL server with the as400.  WRKRDBDIRE
is the command to configure remote data bases for you to access via SQL or
DRDA.

I have a question that maybe someone on the list
can answer.

Several years ago a major effort was made to make
the AS400 more open. Other platforms could access
our data....etc. And this was achieved for all 
intents and purposes.

But nothing has been done to allow us to access 
data from another systems database....such as 
SQLServer. 

Perhaps I'm wrong or not informed. Is there a way
to access data from another system via RPG in 
a realtime fashion? And if we can't why isn't
there any grumbling about this?
