Roger,
When configuring an SDLC connection on a Cisco router, a virtual MAC address
is assigned for Datalink Switching to transport over the network. This is
configured manually in the router - you can use any address from the locally
administered range (the values you can enter for the MAC address on the
ethernet line) provided it is not already being used on your network.
If you are using Dlsw then you do not need to connect your main AS/400 via
serial ports at all - the router can simply use the virtual MAC address to
send the data over the ethernet. You can also configure the Perle
controllers to communicate over the ethernet instead of using SDLC.
