You have to do two things:

Configure Netserver.
Explicitly share folders.

Both of these steps you do in Ops Nav. Shares themselves have security.

Shared folders in Express means directories you’ve explicitly shared.

You probably should check out the Client Access website.

What I really want is to be able to "map" a drive to the system so I can see ALL of the shared folders on the AS/400. To do that I need to be able to "map" at the top level of the system (i.e. \\AS400).

I think the problem is with client access express.

In order to do this you have to have Netserver configured on the as/400. Then you have to share the drive you wish to map to (via ops nav).

Having W2K will actually make mapping the drive easier. This is because Win 9x does not allow you to change the user id. If your as/400 and windows user id's are not exactly the same you can map with Win 9x. W2K will prompt you for a user id with when mapping a drive.

This is can be a real pain. I use the drive explorer feature in Ops Nav. I create a short cut down to the actual directory so by clicking on it I get just the directory I want. Then moving files from my pc to the as/400 is just as easy as if the drive were mapped so I could access it via windows explorer.

Anyone know if I can still map a drive to my AS/400 box from within Windows 2000 Pro.? I need to be able to map it to the AS/400 it self (i.e. \\MYAS400) and not just a share on the system (i.e. \\MYAS400\SHARENAME). We are running "Client Access Express" on the workstations.

We used to be able to do it when we were running NT 4.0 and "Client Access". Thanks for your help.
