Shelly, I agree with Chris that the best place to start is with object-level security, as the scenario you described can be handled quite well with OS/400. OS/400 is very secure - if you take the time to do the setup. You might want to check out IBM's Technical Studio on security - http://www.iseries.ibm.com/tstudio/secure1/secdex.htm. If you want to learn about security I have been impressed with Carol Woodbury's work. The 4th edition of her book, "Implementing AS/400 Security" was recently released. The 29th Street Press publishes it - here's the link: http://www.as400network.com/str/books/Uniquebook2.cfm?NextBook=186. There are also consulting firms (the company I work for included) that will perform a Security Review and then assist you in making changes to your system to facilitate their recommendations. If this is a one-time thing then bringing in consultants may be beneficial. But if you wish to have the skill set in-house I would recommend educating at least two employees.
