Below V5R!1 you  slice  up the partitions CPW on the processor boundaries CPU, at V5R1  & SStar processors you  and do it almost anyway you want with in the min max rules.  As granular as 0.1% of a processor or multiple and  fractional processors.

From V4R4  forward almost every system might be LPARed
