IBM US Announcement letter 901-127 (May 8, 2001) states:
Note: IBM does not offer a plug-compatible replacement product for the 3489 
Logic Unit (5250 Twinax Terminal for AS/400 Servers). A 3488 Logic Unit 
(5250 Twinax Terminal for AS/400 Servers) is available. The 3488 Logic 
Unit does not support Image/Fax Viewing, PC/TV, and 5250 Video Delivery 
features of the 3489 Logic Unit. 
It was also mentioned in 901-044 (February 27, 2001):

According to the Sales Manual... 05/08/01 was removed from
marketing.... No stated replacement.
