We had a problem many moons ago in which, to limit sessions on a very
restricted 400, we turned autocreate devices off. System console failed.
Boss replaced with another terminal model. Wouldn't connect. I had
renamed the command CRTDEVDSP also. Seems that the autocreate uses this
command. Once I had renamed the command back it worked. Had to use
SBMRMTCMD or something from another 400 to rename the command back. Got
strict orders not to rename the command again.

Hi,
I have a wee problem with my Model 500 V3R7.
I swapped my 3197c dumb terminal for a smaller 3196 dumb terminal
and the first IPL gave a SRC A900-2000 (Console error) I switched to manual
and powered down.

Found the twinaxe  cable was faulty and swapped the cable ;
IPLs OK 01 B normal mode. but cant find the system console (the cursor on
the dumb terminal is flashing in bottom left hand corner which proves I
have
a good connection.
Tried all the address settings 0 - 6 and all eight ports on the junction
box. to no avail.

I'm sure that the new 3196 dumb terminal is working as it passes every
test in the handbook; I seem to recall I had a similar problem when I first
purchased the machine and tried to set up the 3197c dumb terminal ; It got
a
sign on screen when I set the second session to address 1 (Port 0)
This time its not so simple.any ideas welcome as to why my trusty AS/400 is
playing games with me.?
Thanks in advance
Dave
