Here's one for the books. I had an ex-operator vacuuming the computer room. He plugged into a power strip that was plugged into a power strip that was plugged into a power strip that was plugged into the UPS. (Ok this has been cleaned up.) As he started the vacuum he heard a beeping. Turned off the vacuum and the beeping stopped. Restarted the vacuum and heard the beeping again. Again it stopped when he turned off the vacuum. The third time he turned on the vacuum, well the UPS blew its internal breaker thus shutting down everything attached to it. It took the UPS 15 minutes to reset this internal breaker. In the mean time we had to get the equipment back up ASAP and started plugging things into the wall. (That's when we traced the web of power strips.) By the way it took a very busy model 200 almost 4 hours to come up and several more to rebuild the indexes. We now cover all unused receptacle off the UPS' with red electrical tape. -----Original Message----- From: Phil [mailto:sublime78ska@yahoo.com] Sent: Monday, June 18, 2001 3:38 PM To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Subject: RE: System utility power failed >When you mentioned the vaccuum cleaner-I thought you >were going to say they unplugged the ups to plug in the >vacuum.
