Thanks to everyone who responded...
The symptons of the problem were frozen emulation screens.... and extremely long print times, but the problem seems to be isolated from the as/400 to the workstation...
The workstation can access other resources off the network.. and I can ping other pieces... And if I ping the workstation when the as/400 cpu load return back to 99% its fine... Its only when its pegged at ++++ do I see the problem...
I was just hoping I could place the ip services job a little higher than the other jobs, but of course still lower than the console.

Tim:
Just because you only get a percent of your pings back does mean you will have problems..... just you have too much time to wait. The ping command defaults to wait for 1 sec for the reply, it does not mean the ping packet is LOST only did not arrive in 1sec. When you ping you can increase the wait time (just F4 the command). The other guys have made other great suggestions, so I will not reiterate. A better test may be to ping another server and the AS400 from the workstation and compare the results.

We have an overworked as/400. And we have a new one on order, but I was wondering if anyone has an idea for a Band-Aid?
Problem. If I ping a workstation during peak usage I will only get 2 of 5 successful hits...
Is there a way to grant more timeslices/priority to the IP services job, to prevent this problem? And if so, what job would I change?
Thanks, tim
