SMTP question

Hi all,
I have a question about the email addressing on the AS400.

What exactly is the relationship between the SMTP user id and the user
profile userid?  I assume they can be different, ie., userid=corbett, smtp
user name = tony, giving a (correctly delivered) email address of
tony@domainname.com while using the password from the user id corbett
????????

This feels right, but am I missing anything?
