The CHGPF will not work if you have specifically set the CCSID which it sounds like you have since you need to change it back to the default. Perhaps a bit messy, but you might be able to do a CPYF in the example CL to a predefined file with the CCSID set to the default (65535) then do what you need to do and iterate through all of the files. I am assuming that the files all have the same properties size etc...

I need to change the code page on some (many) physical files from 424 to
66535 (CHGPF FILE(whatever) CCSID(65535)). Is there an easy way to do this,
and is it recommended that noone be able to access the files while this is
being done? I assume that if there is a lock on the file,
the command will not work anyway.
