There must be something going on behind the scenes. If MC was profitable and IIR wanted to get out of the business, the common strategy would be to sell the publication to the MC management. The "scorched earth" policy of unceremoniously dumping a profitable publication (if MC really was profitable on its own, i.e. without cheap shared corporate services, etc.) can't be the whole story. IIR might be after another similar publication and wouldn't want an independent MC as a competitor, or perhaps Penton Media (News/400 publisher) is buying IIR; IIR is right up Penton's alley. -----Original Message----- From: owner-midrange-l@midrange.com [mailto:owner-midrange-l@midrange.com]On Behalf Of Winchester Terry Sent: Friday, July 27, 2001 11:55 AM To: 'MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com' Subject: RE: The weasels at IIR.ORG Bill, I thought this post by Shannon was interesting. However, the reality of business today is that businesses sometimes lose money and eventually have to close the doors. Many of us have (or know of others who have) experienced this harsh fact of business today firsthand. Consider all the "dot.com's" that have shut down in the last year. It's no fun for employees and its no fun for employers either. Maybe IIR could have handled the situation differently, although we don't know the particulars, only the result. I suspect that the people at IIR are not weasels and probably thought long and hard about the realities of their business. Being a decisionmaker is not always fun nor easy.
