The other limits are (or were) _technological_ limits at the time. But it has long been the policy of many makers of electronic goods to artifically cripple models. The difference is sometimes just jumper poisitions, or circuit traces, or whatever. But it has nothing to do with higher production costs and everything to do with marketing and maximising profit, and reducing production costs by (nearly) identical manufacturing for multiple models at different price points. It just use to be less obvious that this was happening. With CFINT people are just more aware of it. On the one hand, we scream at IBM for the 400 (I mean iSeries) losing ground to new installs because it is not price competitive. Then they come out with models which are more price competitive for new installs, and we scream at them for that too. Glad I'm not in marketing...
