Al,

If you look at the site bvstools dot com, it has shareware
that allows email of reports, and links on how to setup
SMTP on the as/400 to get it all to work.

I currently have it running, and can email reports
to my email address on our exchange server. Wont go
directly outside - but thats our configuration. All i
need to do is forward it from outlook.

Ian.

Subject: Native e-400 mail

I am still a twinax person who not knows the right terminology
& our PC LAN is external Ethernet
real MS-NT
not real e-400
also our security/400 is tied to BPCS CD

My GUI PC specialist is looking for native e-mail from our 400 that does not

neccessitate full blown e-400 web software aquisition
i.e. how can he work what comes native/400 without us having to purchase
anything more.

Can I get him an article or URL that documents step by step how to do this?
Right now he wants our 400 to send but not receive e-mail
Later he might want to have it receive ONLY from our NT intranet.

Right now our people on PCs NT connect to the 400 via a form of CA.

He has setup NT to recognize 400 identity
He needs to figure out how to have the 400 simulate a client that will
e-mail
the NT e-mail server.
I am not sure I am using the right terminology for this.

Scenario Examples

We finish some daily 400 update
Currently we send MSG/400 to sundry individuals
They run stuff to get 400 reports to PC to e-mail to customers,
showing what we shipped today, or other interests

such as caught up updating massive order changes on some customer model line
so now we want people off of 400 momentarily while selective MRP
then next shop floor should act on this info
and perhaps 400 to PC to e-mail confirmation to customer ETA
but we want to streamline & simplify current process,
where some standard actions do some standard notification

Proposal is for CL associated with daily 400 update
to send e-mail from 400 to our NT address "Billing" or whatever
which forwards to everyone on "Billing" list
the fact that this is done & what all shipped today,
because some people want to make sure their customers properly notified, but

only when all shipping to them completed,
while others want to inspect status on what not shipped, that they expected
shipped

management creates score card spread sheets from 400 reports
there's enormous cut & paste & transcription going on

I am sure there's relevant tips & URLs in archives
Please steer me to a subject topic to search on.

Thanks
