The 7855 can have a stored number dialed out automatically, when the dtr
goes ready.
Also, it can be programmed to send out control characters, which may
solve  the 'break' problem.
You can't get fast, and easy answers with this modem, you just have to
slog through the manual, and test the hell out of it..
