You could use the DISPLAY statement. That should allow you to write data out to the *DTAARA. The ACCEPT statment should allow you to read from it. Much like the IN & OUT opcodes from RPG. However, I'm only a COBOL dabbler, so, I may not see any obvious problems with my suggestion... :) -Moe ------------------------------------------------------- Kevin R Mohondro kmohondro@salepoint.com Software Engineer (858)373-2012 SalePoint Corporate Retail Solutions San Diego, CA -----Original Message----- From: Tim Truax [mailto:truax@telerama.com] Sent: Thursday, August 16, 2001 1:59 PM To: MIDRANGE-L list Subject: Change *DTAARA from within a COBOL pgm ? I have a COBOL 400 program that uses a call to QCMDEXC to change a *DTAARA (Data area). Is there a less overhead utilizing manner in which to change a *DTAARA from within a COBOL program than using the QCMDEXC? Maybe some similar way to the way RPG400 does it by using the IN opcode then the OUT opcode? Thanks! Tim Truax :-)
