Thanks Jim. The only thing in our startup that's relevant (to this discussion at least) is STRTCP, which we won't change. This particular machine is a 170 being used as a webserver on a client's secure network. It's been stuck at V4R3 because of another issue. That other issue has now been resolved and we want to take this machine to V4R4 in line with all the others, from where they'll all be upgraded to either V4R5 or V5R1, we're still deciding. The issue with netserver came simply from the V4R4 PSP document. At V4R3 netserver was an autostart job entry in QSERVER. At V4R4 it changes to start with TCP so you need to make sure QSERVER is started before TCP. We in fact want to have it not run for this machine, so I just need to turn off the autostart feature. Anyway, this question was more for curiosity than anything. I will be able to get a client/server connection eventually, I'm just having to organise a 2nd NIC for my PC, 2nd data point at my desk, etc, and none of this will be ready in time for the upgrade. Just got me curious about how this stuff was done from a command as I've only ever used Ops Nav. I do tend towards commands rather than Ops Nav most of the time, but this was one of the exceptions. (I can't use Ops Nav) Some of this depends on the release (not sure what VxRx your at). IBM has a series of documents in the Knowledge Base about startup at the various releases. Anyone who is having problems, or is going to, or has upgraded, IBM has changed the recommendations for the QSTRUP and/or how the subsystems & services are started. And it has changed 4 times since V3R7. Since i never figured out how to link to their docs, these are the titles. (I can't use Ops Nav) drange.com 04/09/01 05:15 PM Please respond to midrange-l Hi Adam, goto cfgtcp then select 20 "Applications ..." and as you already guessed, you have to configure each of the services seperately whether to start with the strtcp command or not. strhostsvr is for starting the client access server side counterparts of the several client access functions. (signon server, database server and so on , I always start all of them (strhostsvr *ALL).
