<snip> We are looking at getting BRMS/400 on one of our AS/400's so that we can back up Lotus Domino without taking the service down. In the course of looking at BRMS, I keep bumping in to a product called ADSTAR and one called ADSM. What are these products, and under what circumstances would I need them? <endsnip> First off, I don't think this is a stupid question, my clients ask it regularly. Inside BRMS is the ability to do a save while active on a Domino database while it is active. You need both BRMS and Domino on the same box. Use the SAVDOMBRM command and it will save everything for you without having to take down the Domino instance. Works great! (Thanks Rochester....) There is some documentation available from support line on this topic. ADSM , Adstar Distributed Storage Management, is an old product that is used to back up several different types of servers and data. It is now repackaged as Tivoli. You do not need this for what you want to do, BRMS is the product you want. If you have multiple iSeries servers, then you will need the additional optional ($$$) portions of BRMS as well. BRMS is a great product that some folks just love to hate for some reason. I don't think the learning curve is all that steep for most installations. A couple of days with the manuals and some advise from an experienced user and your off and running. Jim Oberholtzer Senior Technical Architect Computech Resources, Inc.
