Of particular relevance to this thread are chapters 6 & 7, where he demonstrates the difference between the RISC and CISC systems in this regard. But the short version is that while the CISC hardware *prevents* twiddling the tag bits, the RISC hardware *detects* it but it is software which attempts to enforce it. And that software can be defeated, as Leif demonstrates... Doug
