Har, har, har,

I've had pmr's open for months on corrupted logical files. I've got pmr's
open now on strange messages from RCLSTG. I've got ungodly long RCLSTG on
1 of our 9 AS/400's that IBM has no interest in solving. I've got pmr's
open on ridiculously long SAVSECDTA/SAVSYS. And a bulk of my time every
day is spent just opening and updating pmr's. That is part of what an
AS/400 system administrator has to put up with. pmr's since August - 27 of
which 12 are still open. This is not counting the incidents I've got open
with Notes...
But, I suppose that if one was not beaten into submission by the tech
support of MS, or the unreasonable tolerance people have for just
rebooting, then I suppose the number of incidents with them would be quite
high also.

Just thought I'd stick in my .2c worth. I've never had the need to
"administer" our DB2/400 database. I have, however, seen my colleagues
having to have downtime on a fairly regular basis with their Oracle (on
HP-UX) and SQL server machines because of "database" problems. Most
medium to large sites will employ a DBA for Oracle or SQL Server.
Question: Do any 400 sites employ a DBA and if so then what do you do
with him?

Now that just gags me. 'common knowlege too [sic] people "who know"'.
Ridiculous. Just admit you don't have the answers to the questions and
move
on. Your opinion is obvious and from your "source" I can see it comes
from
Microsoft's marketing info.

Just say so.
