I feel I've started something here! Thanks very much for all your input, including some very good Web references and general points (such as the what-does-a-DBA-do debate and the discussion of whether or not we actually use, or need to use, or should plan to use, the latest DB2 enhancements). My customer currently has AS/400s running his production systems, and an Oracle-based Web application. The question is whether his future needs might be better served bringing the Web application under the AS/400 umbrella, or possibly in migrating to SQL Server. I really need him to make an informed decision. You have no doubt guessed which way I want him to go, really ...
