Friends, I have had many colleagues over my years with the IBM midrange move over to Microsoft work. They did this not because of technical superiority, but because of the burgeoning market for Microsoft products, and hence the greater quantity of employment and consulting opportunities and well as a larger market for books and articles. Looked at from a career-planning perspective, this was a smart move. Not everything is justified by technical excellence.
