Bill,

I think it's most likely due to SQL deletes, which initialize the record as
well as marking it deleted.  Probably considered to be a security feature.
I took some lumps over that once.

Thanks for the ideas - I have thought about items 1(search including
deleted records) and 2 (data refresh) myself.  I will consider!

Item 3 though is a puzzler.  I don't use the global "undelete" program much
(haven't had many accidents!) and I've never heard of this issue from
anyone else.  The same MI routine is used to "undelete" a record, whether
it be for a single record at a time or rolling through the whole file.
WRKDBF actually uses the "undelete" function written by Dave McKenzie, one
of our list "lurkers".  I'm not smart enough to write that one!  Maybe if
Dave sees this post he can add his perspective.
