Mark and Andy,

Thanks for the responses, I knew about the debug messages, and I know that
sometimes query has to build an index.

Maybe my question really has more to do with the

"xxxxxx records selected, xxxxxxx records processed"

status message. Is this displayed as the index is built, or as they are
"gathered" for display - after the index is built, or both.

if I have a query over a single file (that has no indexes) with sort and
selection criteria, I get the same message - but it displays the records a
page at a time.

Sometimes, in more complicated querys (with joins) I get the message, and
it displays a page before processing all records.

I was just wondering if anyone had a definitive answer, but no big deal.

The only reason I asked was that I'd always wondered, and today I was
sitting and waiting for a multi-million record join query to run, just so I
could take a look at it to be sure it worked the way I wanted it to. I
only needed to see the first page or so of records, but it took almost an
hour to run.

thanks again,

Rick
