Why isn't the default on this command parameter *YES in the first place?

there a cost involved?  Why would anyone ever willingly choose ENDCNN(*NO)?

There could be a situation where the user does not want to end the
connection but just the session. For instance, we have a job in which we
have to sign off and right back on. However, the default for most cases
should probably be to end the connection.
