I don't know.  I've been involved in a major application migration from
AS/400 to Unix/Oracle that was dumbed down to being a hardware upgrade.  I
think that whether you're going from AS/400 to Unix/Oracle or Unix/Oracle to
AS/400 it still adds an extremely large layer of complexity to the project.

Does anyone know how SAP on the iSeries is viewed by SAP?  Lawson is the
classic example, but I've seen many multi-platform software products where
the AS/400 version is the bastard child.  These vendors use development
techniques which can be ported among many of the platform versions but which
do not easily port to native iSeries languages or the database.

And on this vein, I am aware of a company that wanted to go to the I-series
during a hardware upgrade, but IBM was unable to tell of any success stories
ref. migrating from Unix/Oracle to OS400/DB2. The CFO wisely chose to stay
with Unix.
