Thanks, I was looking for an AS/400 last year when I had the money,
however
I don't now (SNIFF, SNIFF). The advise on VB and Excel is good and
manageable. I have done a lot with Excel and used ODBC to import data from
the AS/400. I have also set up jobs on the AS/400 to FTP files to PCs and
run remote jobs on the PC to incorporate the data on the PC server's
database. Meanwhile I have been studying for MCSE certification.
Thanks,
Julio.

Julio,

If you are staying with the as400, here is some unsolicited advice from me.

Learn as much Visual Basic and Excel as you can with the emphasis on
integrating those tools with the as400.

You said you have a windows network at home. If you have $1700 available,
look for an as400 on ebay. You can get a basic model 150 with an ethernet
feature for about that price. Once you have a 400 on your network, you will
have all the hardware you need to hone your pc to as400 integration skills.

Good luck,

Steve Richter
