Thanks,  that's a nice easy work-around.  It will work for me at least, but
for other users we will probably end up FTP'ing the files to a Novell
server.

Create a user profile on the AS/400 with the same name and password as your
network. Then grant authority to the folder and all objects to that user.

We run into that often, but we're rolling out Windows 2000 on a new 2000
domain and the network user ids will match the 400's!
