Poets actually earning a living?

I believe you're not kidding and I know you're not wrong.
Some people write programs because they have learned (or, more likely, "are
learning") a programming language.  And there are a great many programmers
who do a good (and often very good) of coding.  Then you have the poets:
they have complete control of the language, know the execution environment,
possess an application vision, and are unable to imagine doing anything else
other than programming.
A "poetic" program has one characteristic similar to pornography: you can't
define it, but you know it when you see it.
Now that I think about it: there are a lot of programmers writing like ee
cummings.
At risk of annoying some, IBM noted many years ago that many excellent
programmers studied Latin...

You are probably right, most programmers are probably engineers.
Me, I'm a poet who found a form of poetry that pays.

Sunless? Isn't the sea underground? Need to debug this one.....
