Here's a formula to convert an Excel serial number (date value) to a text
representation:
=TEXT(YEAR(B1),0)&"/"&TEXT(MONTH(B1),0)&"/"&TEXT(DAY(B1),0)

Here's how to test that it works:
In Cell A1 enter       =DATE(2001,12,11)
In Cell B1 enter       =DATE(2001,12,11)
Both cells will show     12/11/01  (depending upon your PC's date format).
Now, click on B1 and Format/Cells/Number  -or- click on the comma "," tool bar
icon.
Even though B1 has the same value as A1, it shows 37,236; the serial number for
that date.
Now, enter the formula specified above into C1 and you have now created a text
value of that serial date.
