Make sure the parameter (  Drop line at signoff ) is set to *NO.  Since the
5494 acts like it is a switched connection I have had to change this value
in the past.  If I remember right the last device to signoff would drop the
controller.

I don't know!  Manually created the devices with a CRTDEVD and the manual
so I could work out the device addresses and after varying on the devices
and getting the remote site to power down the screens and power them back
on again, eventually they 'bit' and have rejoined us.
I don't know why they disappeared in the first place or why AUTOCFG
wouldn't rescue me...
