Some odds & ends we may not have made crystal clear.

===============================

Various people here (me included)
have suggested you change stuff on your 400
without us knowing much about your system

SUGGESTION
before you implement any of our suggested changes
like to SYSVAL for example
do another post here using as the subject the proposed change

e.g. QCTLSBSD questions (was: AS/400 Backup questions)

then ask for pros & cons on making the suggested change
you will probably get a slightly different mix of people responding
who did not participate in the earlier thread
because the subject becomes the trip wire for interesting people
in reading the post then commenting on it

Be sure to include your OS/400 version & AS/400 model
and any other info you think might be relevant such as
typical # users / application load
DSPSYSSTS disk space consumption

===============================

You have an error message
Put the cursor on the error message
F1
notice short text that was what was on the screen
& (often) longer text clarification *****

***** sometimes the clarification is helpful in resolving the problem

at top of screen there should be a message id (e.g. CPD6AC5) and a severity
***** it would be extremely useful to share these clues with whoever you
asking for guidance

F10
F18

***** share specifics with us

GO PROBLEM
try the options offered

It gives you a list of problems which could be reported to IBM ... mainly
hardware glitches.

Last month our tape backup died ... IBM had to replace the tape drive.
This happened a couple days before end-month & there was talk of doing end
month without using the tape drive.
I would not have minded no backup.
My problem was the EOM stuff that writes ancient records to historical tape.
