Savsys 21 (was Probably very easy, Newbie Question)

I run the FULL save once a month.....makes me (and more importantly...my
boss <g>) sleep better at night.
It might be overkill.....but better safe than sorry.

How often do other people run it ?

Keep in mind that a FULL system save may be rarely needed, perhaps
semi-annually or even less frequently. This may only be needed after release
upgrades, adding new licensed program products, significant PTF activity,
etc. If the system is stable, more normal user library and directory
backups, plus SAVSECDTA and SAVCFG possibly into savefiles in a "user"
library, should be sufficient on a regular basis. (Daily SAVSECDTA and
SAVCFG into online savefiles can be very handy in some circumstances, giving
near immediate access while taking little space.) Using SAVCHGOBJ daily then
gives useful recovery options.

Just be sure to have a couple separated copies of the full system save,
preferably on media from two different vendors or at the least from two
different batches of tape to prevent possible bad batches from ruining both
copies. And maybe even a SAVSTG set as well -- this can come in handy
sometimes for fast recovery if the recovery procedure is understood. (I've
seen it save a system even when recovery was _not_ understood -- i.e., the
first time I had to rely on it.)
