Yes it is, I didn't know whether there is an explicit date type
for the AS/400 database or not. If there is and it is defined
thru ODBC then there could be additional conversions going on. I
liked your format$ solution, that would be my favorite.

At one point early in my carerr, we were using dates that were
32767 to -32768 (16 bit integers) leading to the dreaded Y1989
problem (it didn't get a lot of press)
