Exactly right Joe,

Balanced thruput of a work load is the point.

What's the I/O speed,
How is their task dispatching algorithms,
How are processor interupts handled in/affect a job,
how does it handle object locks?(oh that's right, it's a single user
designed machine, how convienent).

I think I will look at RPM's of an engine for comparisons.

My question is why would anyone do that on an iSeries? OS/400 is tuned to
allow hundreds or thousands of jobs simultaneous access to millions or even
billions of records. To see how well it squishes a video is roughly akin
to
seeing how fast a tow truck is off the line (or how many tons a Lamborghini
can pull). Wrong tool for the wrong job, IMO. You want to squish video,
get a $700 Linux box and do it there!
