Your definition of "captive" also is good...  It sure IS easier to hop from
*nix to *nix...!

But in the sense I'm using the word, folks are "captive" to the interactive
feature, because they don't want to spend the dough re-engineering their
apps.  As James Kilgore said, you pay one way or t'other...
