Just a FYI....

Q. My customer recently went to V5R1 and the 5250 interactive performance
seems to have changed. Is there a problem?

A: Unfortunately, the integration of new iSeries function into V4R5 and
V5R1 resulted in tighter controls being applied to a customer's use of
interactive capacity beyond the published 5250 Interactive CPW levels of
capacity.

When the published 5250 Interactive CPW levels are exceeded, long running
5250 interactive jobs are not being managed the same they were managed at
V4R4. As a result, some customers have experienced different performance
characteristics when compared to V4R4, even though they were running very
similar workloads.

   V5R1 Customers:
If you are operating at or beyond the published 5250 Interactive CPW
capacity levels for your configured server and are experiencing the
situation outlined above, then apply PTF #MF27323 (Included in the
latest CUM package #C1302510). After installing PTF MF27281, customers
should expect to see V5R1 interactive performance characteristics
   consistent with V4R4.
   V4R5 Customers:
If you are operating at or beyond the published Interactive CPW capacity
levels for your configured server and are experiencing the situation
that was outlined above, then you can upgrade to V5R1 and apply PTF
#MF27323 or you can wait to apply a V4R5 PTF that is currently under
development (target availability is Dec 31, 2001). After installing
the forthcoming PTF, customers should expect to see V4R5 interactive
   performance characteristics consistent with V4R4

   Regards,
   Dan
