CFINT has been around at least since the early 'black box' AS/400s; it was 
evident in Version 3 of OS/400. However, that's not to say the functionality

...but the software clearly reacts to differences in hardware (firmware?). 
Loading a new OS/400 shouldn't cause significant differences in CFINT behavior. 
If it does, a PTF should be made available to fix it.

Older boxes were purchased with interactive capacity included, i.e., it was 
paid for at that time.
