IBM has ported almost all their server software to Linux.

A lot of the companies you mentioned are probably tight IBM partners also.
If IBM starts doing decent business selling dedicated iSeries for Linux,
that they might not see a profit line also?

No one said Linux can do everything.  It is still relatively young, but
every month a new large established company is incorporating Linux into
their market strategy.

A lot of other companies did the work on Linux to mainframe/iseries with
IBM's help.  So they atre taking advantage of it and trying to sell more
hardware.  I haven't heard them say to iSeries customers to switch to Linux.
All they have said it "You love the iSeries?  Well look what else it can do
for ya!"

I see it as they are doing two things:
1)  Increasing the usefulness of a product you have purchased/going to
purchase
2) Adding another tool for their customers/prospective customers.

I don't see how this strategy of IBM's can hurt them?  What do they really
lose if they don't sell a single dedicated Linux iSeries?  Nothing, cause I
am sure their are customers that are still going to use the tech involved to
integrate Linux on their OS/400 just as their are some customers that
itnegrate NT with it.
