Jeff, Be absolutely sure that there are no tapes in any drives when you load from the CD. We went from V4R4 to V5R1 on Saturday, 9 Feb 2002. I came in early and did some final processing and kicked off a SAVSYS to save my sys admin some time. For some reason, I ejected the tape in the internal 8mm and the DLT drive. I was backing up onto the Ultrium drive so left it alone. I didn't even think about our old 9348. It had a tape in it, in a ready status. Sys Admin came in and started the upgrade. Directions said to stick the CD in the drive and Power up from D (alt IPL source). He followed the directions and the system just hung there. After trying to get it to do anything including power down, he called IBM. They gave him a secret code to do on the panel which is the same as pulling the plug. Their explanation: the system will look all along the entire bus for a device with something in it. The CD drive is the very last thing. So, the system was stuck trying to IPL from a tape that had a data file saved on it. So, clear all tape drives before starting the upgrade ! Cyndi B. Boise, ID PS. Don't believe the Cumes and Hipers Etc. I found several other PTF's that needed to be loaded that are not in either classification. You just need to take some time and browse the PTF database.
