We added some DASD a few weeks ago.  In talking with the IBM FE during the
process the topic of fans came up.  His statements were that they were used
at startup and then thermostatically.  In addition, if one dies, the others
speed up to compensate for its loss.

As long as its not Air Movement Device #9, the CPU cooling fan.  If #9 goes
out, it takes the ball and goes home.  The system hits the floor with a
thud.
