I had this problem also and there were two different causes.

#1) Windows ME and Dial Up
Windows ME dial up si different than traditional Windows. It can be set to
disconnect on idle AND be told what percent fo the bandwidth is considered
idle. Well, since Client Access uses minimal bandwidth,it would disonnect
frequently. Telling it to not disconect on idle solved this problem.

#2) Windows going to "sleep mode"
When I had windows 98 SE set to spin down hard disks and go to sleep, it
would invariably kill the client access session (well, the app would be
opened, but the AS/40 would time out the session from lack of response it
would seem). Setting the computer to only turn off monitor rectified this
situation (it happened on several PCs and it fixed all of them).
