True words Al. Very good points, especially about a) always newer and
better, b) not buying on long term growth. Another reason to lease.
Instead of overbuying a machine, which will be obsolete before you use
that extra capacity, get just what you need (and maybe some short term
growth). And trade up when you need more.
Does announcement date = availability date?
Classic example from WWII. France had a fairly good antitank weapon. But
didn't put it into production because another one was almost ready.
Evidently not in time, because the German tanks rolled all over their a$$.

a rule of thumb,
If you wait until the latest and greatest performing box is out, you will
wait forever, because IBM will always bring out boxes that are faster and
cheaper.
Buy the capacity you need today, and no more, and be willing to re-buy or
upgrade as your business grows.

Hi,
We're looking at upgrading a 9402-400 to a 270 in the next few months.
Now somewhere I heard that IBM will announce new boxes in june.
Should we wait? If so, how long until the announced boxes would actually
be available?
Best regards,
Matthias
