The network admins where the source data is located were hesitant to provide ftp or ftps capability to the data file, due to some front-end/back-end security issues on their side. They were uncomfortable providing any means except an https download, which I was hoping to automate on the 400 with a daily scheduled job, like my other ftp download requirements. They have since come up with a way to provide some security wrapping and allow an ftp download of the files. https downloading is no longer needed. Regarding my SMTP question, I realize that an SMTP server and client are available on the 400, this was reviewed and I simply did not like that it used QSNADS and directory services for its function. Since we have this 400 on the net already, I was looking to subvert needing to fire up all this feature when a simple smtp client app was all that was needed. Using our ISP smtp server will work fine for outbound mail. Our only requirement for 400 smtp mail is outbound, under application control for some home grown apps to send emails to pagers for device and job monitoring, and a few bulk emailing needs. The SNDM freeware app seems to work just fine, it download and installed easily and does all it says it can do. A look at the source code does not reveal any subversive type of logic, always a concern for freeware from an unknown source. Curious if others are using SNDM or have experience/success with any other product.
