I guess I was just looking more for where the stuff is. I had written down an example command 'DSPMSG QLXXXX QXXXMSG.' However that must be inaccurate. I will have to update it. Thanks all... I think that caffeine is kicking in now... <g> -----Original Message----- From: Buck Calabro [mailto:Buck.Calabro@commsoft.net] Sent: Monday, May 06, 2002 9:38 AM To: midrange-l@midrange.com Subject: RE: Retrieving a Message from the message file... >How do I get to the system message files again? >I need to see what message CPF0939 means. The job log of the message is THE place to find out what it means, but if someone has created a trivia contest for you by only noting the message ID, DSPMSGD is the command you need. It is not as useful as the joblog because the substitution variables are not filled in. If you ever get lost, use the GO command to search for either the verb (GO CMDDSP) or the noun (GO CMDMSG) that you suspect will fit the bill. The naming convention of OS/400 commands is so good that a guess (GO CMDMSGF) will probably work on the first try. --buck _______________________________________________ This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
