Without knowing what brand of FTP server you'll be connecting to, it's impossible to say. FTP standard allows servers to optionally support SITE EXEC in order to execute commands remotely, but you'll have to determine if it'll work for you. And if it won't work, you'll have to determine if that particular server supports any alternative. Perhaps the best way to start is to connect to the server and then run the HELP SERVER command to see what commands the server supports.
