I don't know if you budget allows purchasing software (reasonable) to help
you with this; but we do your same scenario at our shop and we use EDI/IP
software from Trailblazer Systems to streamline the job for us.  It allows
easy, slick tracking of the messages AND their associated MDNs -- and they
are great to work with!!
