One problem I've seen is that QNTC doesn't seem to work with domain names > 12 characters. It only sends the first 12 on the line. Or domain name happens to be TECHSOFTWAREINC which is valid in windows, but only TECHSOFTWARE gets sent down the line. It's a low enough priority problem that I haven't addressed it with IBM, but just in case you get hit with it I figured I'd mention it. -Walden PS V5R1 ------------ Walden H Leverich III President Tech Software (516) 627-3800 x11 (208) 692-3308 eFax WaldenL@TechSoftInc.com http://www.TechSoftInc.com Quiquid latine dictum sit altum viditur. Your iSeries can participate in a Microsoft peer-to-peer sharing network over TCP/IP. The Win2k server would define a shared folder on one of its drives. The iSeries would reference that share in the QNTC file system. Security can get sticky and you're better off having the program which copies from the iSeries to the Win2k box run under a profile/password which is defined on both boxes. Check the section on the QNTC (page 70) file system in the manual at the URL below. It should give you a good introduction and may be enough to get the whole job done. iSeries Integrated File System Introduction Version 5 http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/pubs/html/as400/v5r1/ic2924/info/ifs/rzaaxmst. pdf Regards, Andy Nolen-Parkhouse > On Behalf Of Richard B Baird > Subject: Copy a file from IFS to an NT box on network > > hey all, > > when answering, keep in mind that i am decidedly not well versed in the > mysteries of networking - iseries, NT, novell, etc. - but i've been asked > to recommend a way of doing the following: > > situation: Iseries (v5r1) on corporate network - a mixture of NT and > Netware. > > they currently have software that monitors an outq dataque, and creates a > .PDF file from reports that appear on that outq, and places the pdfs in > the > ifs. > > we would like to modify this, so that it will do one of the following... > > in addition to the IFS, write the .pdf to a pc disk too (probably Win2k, > or > similar) also on the network. > > or > > monitor for new files in that path on the ifs, and copy the files to the > pc > disk. > > the idea being that users can access the files, without being given any > authority to the iseries IFS. > > prefer to use rpg and/or cl. > > so, I guess what I'm saying is, can as/400 programs recognise other > network paths? is it just a matter of specifying '//computername/c$' > or similar > instead of using an ifs path? > > I'd appreciate any recommendations, or even a little direction. > > thanks a bunch, > > rick _______________________________________________ This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
